The City of Wood Dale was declared a Tree City in 2005.

The Tree City USA® program, sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, provides direction, technical assistance, public attention, and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities that more than 135 million Americans call home.

This year Wood Dale has received the Tree USA Growth Award for the third year in a row.  The Growth Award is awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation to recognize higher levels of tree care by participating communities.  The Award highlights innovative programs and projects, as well as increased commitment of resources for urban forestry,  This year a newly revised Comprehensive Tree Plan and Regulation of Tree Preservation Ordinance was submitted for consideration, and was approved.
